Dependant's Pass: bringing your family to Singapore.

Relocating is rarely just about you. Once your Employment Pass salary clears the threshold, your immediate family can move with you, and that often matters more to the decision than the business itself.

An Employment Pass holder with a fixed monthly salary of at least SGD 6,000 can sponsor a legally married spouse and unmarried children under 21 on a Dependant's Pass. At a higher salary, commonly around SGD 12,000, you can also bring parents on a Long-Term Visit Pass. A Dependant's Pass holder cannot work automatically; to take a job they need their own work pass. Children on a Dependant's Pass can enrol in school.

Can your spouse work?

Not on the Dependant's Pass alone. The old Letter of Consent that once let Dependant's Pass holders work was discontinued, so a spouse who wants to work now needs their own work pass, such as an Employment Pass or S Pass, sponsored by an employer. The Dependant's Pass lets them live in Singapore; it does not carry the right to work by itself. For some couples this shapes how they plan the move, and we factor it in.

Parents and other relatives

Bringing parents is possible through a Long-Term Visit Pass, but it generally requires a higher salary, commonly cited around SGD 12,000 a month. Common-law spouses, stepchildren and unmarried disabled children over 21 can also be sponsored on a Long-Term Visit Pass rather than a Dependant's Pass. These are assessed case by case.

Schooling and settling in

Children on a Dependant's Pass can attend school in Singapore, including international schools and, subject to availability and the relevant rules, local schools. Many founders relocate specifically for the schooling and stability, so getting the family passes in place early is part of a smooth move.

How it fits the bigger picture

The Dependant's Pass depends entirely on your own Employment Pass, so the family's move rests on getting your EP right first, at a salary that clears the SGD 6,000 threshold. Settling your family in Singapore also strengthens your later permanent residence case, because genuine roots and integration matter. We plan the family passes alongside your EP, not as an afterthought.
